New South Wales (NSW), or New South Wales, is the most populous state in Australia. It is located in the southeast of Australia, south of Queensland, north of Victoria, and east of South Australia. Its capital is Sydney, and its territory surrounds the entire Australian Capital Territory. New South Wales is now divided into 152 local government areas. New South Wales was established in 1788 as the first British colony in Australia. At that time, its area included the entire Australian continent except the west coast (then called New Holland). In the 19th century, New South Wales was gradually divided into several independent colonies, including: Tasmania (1825), New Zealand (1841), Victoria (1851), Queensland (1859) and South Australia (1836). In 1901, these colonies, together with Western Australia, formed the Commonwealth of Australia and changed from independent colonies to states under the federal system.
New South Wales is home to countless golden beaches, breathtaking natural treasures, and world-famous and vibrant cities. New South Wales is famous for its charming harbour capital Sydney, endless beaches and pristine forests, and elegant restaurants. With both well-known tourist destinations and lesser-known hidden gems, this state located on the east coast is worthy of being a tourist destination.
